Adviser to the Turkish Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu and Kurdistan Regional Government leader Massoud Barzani discussed transferring Kurdistan Workers Party leader Abdullah Ocalan to a prison in Istanbul, the Vatan newspaper reported.
The court first sentenced Ocalan to death, but later gave him life imprisonment on Imrali Island.
During his visit to Iraq Sinirlioglu discussed combating terrorism in the region, in particular, ways of elimination of terrorist PKK in the region.
Following the visit it was decided that if PKK does not agree to leave the Turkish-Iraqi border, Turkey may resume military operation in northern Iraq.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has lasted for over 25 years, claiming over 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by both the UN and the EU.
