Turkish high-officials on Saturday marked the Mother's Day, celebrated on the second Sunday of the month of May, Anadolu agency reported.
Turkey's President Abdullah Gul stressed the importance of mother-child bonding in his message, saying that a child who gained motherly love would be at peace with his environment and stay away from all sorts of harmful influences.
"The new generations' strength depends on various kinds of good opportunities provided to mothers, from education to health," he added.
Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said many young people have died in Turkey due to terrorist acts and the only way to establish peace in the country is when mothers' hearts are stilled. He said Turkey would not experience such suffering again as the government is taking decisive measures to end terrorism.
Family and Social Policies Minister Aysenur Islam stressed in her celebration message that the society always needs mothers who are socially active, well-educated, confident, strong, productive and who can keep up with the changing world.
