Putin: Turkey’s downing Su-24 bomber hostile act

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 17

Trend:

Ankara committed a hostile act by shooting down the Su-24 bomber, Tass agency quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin as saying Dec. 17 at an annual press conference in Moscow.

Relations between Russia and Turkey deteriorated after a Turkish F-16 shot down a Russian Su-24 on Nov. 24.

"We believe the acts of Turkish authorities with regard to our plane, which they shot down, aren't unfriendly, they are hostile," he said. "They downed a military plane, our men were killed."

"If that was an accident - as we later heard Turkish authorities sort of didn't even know that it was a Russian plane. What to do in such case? People have died! It was needed to immediately pick up the phone and provide explanations," he said.

Putin added that it is almost impossible to agree with the current Turkish authorities.

"On the interstate level, the cooperation with Ankara is almost impossible," Russian president said, adding that however the cooperation on the humanitarian level will continue.
