The Azerbaijani State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents and the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy are actively working as part of establishing the Technical Committee on Alternative Energy, the Azerbaijani State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents told Trend Aug. 26. The Technical Committee is being established upon the committee's initiative.
The main purpose of establishing the Technical Committee is to develop and examine the relevant state standards, according to the representative of the State Committee.
"At present, the operations are being actively held with the State Agency for Renewable and Alternative Energy as part of the formation of a new Technical Committee," according to the statement. "This work will be completed in the near future. But it is difficult to say the exact date."
Azerbaijan has recently widely developed alternative energy sources. In particular, the country prepared the "State strategy for the development of alternative and renewable energy sources up to 2020" as part of the development of alternative energy."
Azerbaijan has great potential for the development of alternative energy. In particular, the potential of wind energy in the country is 4,500 megawatts, biomass - 1,500 megawatts, geothermal and geothermal energy - 800 MW, small hydro power plants - 350 MW.
By 2020, the share of alternative energy sources in a total consumption volume in Azerbaijan is expected to reach 20 percent.
