Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili wants to increase economic growth in Georgia over the next few years with the goal of turning the country into an "economic Singapore."

Saakashvili met this week with the heads of governmental agencies at the Agriculture Ministry.

The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and Agriculture Minister Bakur Kvezereli.

"We cannot become an economic 'Singapore' by doing just work as usual," Saakashvili said.

He said Georgia must work overtime to reach this goal, working more "today than yesterday."

"We do not need bureaucrats who just keep their chairs warm and take up space," Saakashvili stressed. "We need patriots and professionals who will really think about how to make Georgia a Singapore."

Economic growth hit 5-6 percent in Georgia in 2009, which is a "very high figure given the global crisis," the president said.

"Becoming a Singapore is a process that takes years, but we need to ensure that each year we have double-digit growth," he said.
