Presidential elections to be held in Uzbekistan in 2015

The Uzbek Senate (upper house of Uzbek parliament), has approved a constitutional legal procedure entitled ‘On the next elections to representative bodies of state power and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan’, at a meeting held on Friday.

The Uzbek Senate (upper house of Uzbek parliament), has approved a constitutional legal procedure entitled 'On the next elections to representative bodies of state power and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan', at a meeting held on Friday.

The next parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan will be held in December 2014 with the presidential one in 2015, which takes place 90 days from the date of publication of official results of parliamentary elections in accordance with the law.

According to legislative procedure, the document is adopted by the Parliament, and will be directed to the head of the state for approval.

The previous presidential elections were held in Uzbekistan in 2007 when Islam Karimov was elected as a President for seven years.

The election of the current Parliament was held in December 2009 for a term of five years
