Iraq has signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran to buy weapons, ambassador of Iraq to Iran, Mohammed Majid Al-Shaikh said, Iranian Tasnim News agency reported on Feb. 3.

"The Iraqi defence ministry believes that Iranian military equipment is very effective," the ambassador said.

He added that according to the ministry, Iraqi army should be supplied with Iranian-made military equipment.

Al-Shaikh did not unveil any information about the type of military equipment which Iraq will buy from Iran.

Tasnim news agency has announced that the detailed text of the interview with Iraqi ambassador will be published in the coming days.
