The two Iranian carmakers, Iran Khodro and Saipa, will assemble two French cars, namely Peugeot 301 and Citroën Elysée on a joint platform.

Iran Khodro plans to manufacture Peugeot 301, while Saipa plans to manufacture Citroën Elysée , Iran 's Donya-ye Eqtesad daily newspaper reported on September 15.

The two Iranian carmakers both have been manufacturing Renault Tondar-90 on same platform earlier. However, they have not officially cooperated in manufacturing a single car.

This time, they will launch a joint venture to create a spare parts supply chain.

Before sanctions were imposed on Iran , Peugeot was the biggest selling European manufacturer in Iran.

The company is looking to strike a bigger deal with Iran Khodro, the country's largest manufacturer, though its French rival Renault is also looking to get in on the act.
Iran's media reported that the country's auto industry could see a major rise in production of cars in 2015.

Global automakers are in a race for new business in Iran following the July 14 signing of a nuclear accord between Iran and the world powers, which will end economic sanctions against Iran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.
