At least 100 servicemen and more than 100 civilians were killed in the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region in Tajikistan on Tuesday during a special operation to neutralize an organized group involved in the murder of special services general Abdullo Nazarov, BBC reported.

Previously, "Ozodi" radio station (Tajik service of Radio "Liberty") reported on the death of 30 people, most of whom were members of armed groups.

Regional head of National Security Committee Abdullo Nazarov was killed on Saturday evening, two kilometers far from the city of Khorog in eastern Tajikistan. The general was returning from a business trip when his car was stopped by unknown people. According to the National Security Committee, Nazarov died from stab wounds.

According to the statement made by Tajik National Security Committee and Interior Ministry, preliminary investigation revealed that the crime had been committed by members of illegal armed group headed by boundary detachment commander Tolib Aembekov.

According to the statement, Aembekov headed illegal armed group, which had been smuggling drugs, tobacco products, and precious stones for many years. The group was involved in several serious crimes.

According to "Ozodi" radio, Tolib Aembekov fled to Afghanistan on Tuesday. One of his sons, whose name was not called, was killed during the special operation.
