Russian General Prosecutor's Office granted the request of the Kazakh General Prosecutor's Office on extradition of the former head of the Kazakh Statistics Agency Anar Meshimbayeva, the Kazakh General Prosecutor's Office reported on Friday.

Anar Meshimbayeva is suspected of embezzlement while conducting national population census in 2009.

"Meshimbayeva will be transferred to the Kazakh law enforcement agencies after the decision on her extradition comes in force," the General Prosecutor's Office said.

Meshimbayeva was resigned in October 2009 when a scandal broke out in the agency after the implementation of the national population census. The second national census was held in Kazakhstan from February 25 to March 6, 2009. The Kazakh government allocated 1.144 billion tenge ($ 7.6 million) for census implementation. Meanwhile only 379 million tenge ($ 2.5 million) of these funds were used for the purpose, the remaining 764.8 million tenge (over $ 5 million) were looted by officials.
In February 2013 Meshimbayeva was detained by the Russian Interior Ministry.
