UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan Šimonović and Interior Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhodyr Matlubov discussed the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan on ensuring human rights, Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) reported on Tuesday.

"The purpose of our visit, which is a logical continuation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's visit to Uzbekistan in April 2010, is the direct acquaintance with the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan to ensure the rights and legitimate interests of the person. We are supporters of active cooperation with Uzbekistan in this direction," UzA quotes the UN representative as reporting.

Šimonović was informed about the system of law enforcement bodies of Uzbekistan, a large-scale work carried out by the internal bodies to ensure human rights, UzA reported.

On the same day, members of the UN delegation visited the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan, and exchanged views on the national system of human rights institutions established in the republic.

As it was reported, Šimonović arrived in Tashkent within his tour to the Central Asian countries on Sunday.

Visit of the UN representative to Uzbekistan will last until May 29.
