NATO-led troops based in Afghanistan during search operation eliminated seven Taliban insurgents in Baghlan province, some 160 km north of capital city of Kabul on Sunday, an official said.

"A unit of international forces launched a search operation in Burka district in the wee hours of Sunday as a result seven militants were killed," district governor of Burka, Sangin Mohammad told Xinhua.

He said the dead bodies of insurgents were laid down in Falul village of Burka district north east of provincial capital Pul-e- Khumri.

On the other hand, Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to talk for Taliban outfit in talks with media from undisclosed location confirmed seven of armed group's fighters had been killed in a battle with NATO-led forces.

However, he said Taliban have also inflected casualties to foreign forces in the combat took place in Burka district.

Both security forces and Taliban fighters have intensified activities to consolidate positions as the spring, traditionally regarded as the fighting season, is nearing in the war-ravaged Afghanistan.

The previously peaceful Baghlan and neighboring Kunduz province has been the scene of Taliban-led militancy over the past couples of months in northern part of central Asian state.
