Construction of the underwater fiber optic cable highway is planned for mid-2013, the head of TASIM project (Transnational Eurasian Information Super Highway) work group Ilyas Naibov Aylisli said Friday.
According to Naibov Aylisli, a bi-lateral agreement is expected on construction of the Caspian segment.
The participants are discussing research of market volumes, communication channel capacity, and construction of the project management structure.
Russia (Rostelecom), Kazakhstan (KazTransCom), Turkey (TurkTelecom ), China (ChinaTelecom) and Azerbaijan (Azertelecom) are involved in the project.
Previously, Naibov Aylisli said the project's operations network and preliminary work in the areas were sufficiently developed for construction to begin.
Two cable networks, both independent and interchangeable, will run through Turkey and Ukraine to link participant countries to major European operators. TASIM will boast a bandwidth of several terabits.
