BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 2. Azerbaijani supplies open up additional opportunities for Slovenia's gas diversification, Slovenian Minister of the Environment, Climate, and Energy Bojan Kumer said today in Ljubljana, commenting on the start of Azerbaijani gas supplies by SOCAR on August 1, Trend reports.

"I believe that this and future agreements will foster long-term, successful cooperation not only between our two companies but also between our two countries," he stated.

The minister highlighted that Slovenia has been actively diversifying its natural gas supply routes.

"This has enabled us to secure and reliably supply natural gas to Slovenia for the upcoming winter," Kumer added.

The minister emphasized that Azerbaijani supplies, as a key strategic partner for the EU, provide Slovenia with an important opportunity to further diversify its gas sources.

Kumer also mentioned that during his visit to Baku on July 17, 2024, alongside Azerbaijani Energy Minister Perviz Shahbazov, an agreement was reached to explore new avenues for cooperation between companies from both countries.

"We have identified new areas for collaboration, including hydrogen, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy sources," he noted.

On August 1, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) began gas supplies to Slovenia. These supplies are in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding, signed on July 17 this year, which aims to expand cooperation in the gas sector between SOCAR and Geoplin, Slovenia’s largest natural gas company.
