Secretariat of Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking States will be Established, Says Turkish President

Turkey, Istanbul, November 21/ Trend , corr T. Aliyev/ The Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Turkic Speaking States will establish a Secretariat. The work on the establishment of the Secretariat is being carried out and will be continued in the Baku summit of the Organization, President of Turkey Abdullah Gul said while addressing the meeting of heads of parliament of the Turkic speaking states which is being held in Istanbul.

Turkish President described establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic Speaking States as an important event and added that the Council of Elders is being set up at the same time. Turkey and Kazakhstan have already appointed their representatives to the Council of Elders.

The first meeting of Interparliamentary Council of the Turkic Speaking States took place on February 20-21, 2008 in Antalia. The meeting ended with signing of protocol on the establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly. Heads of parliaments of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan attended the Istanbul meeting. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan refused to take part in the meeting.
