Georgia, Tbilisi, Jul.17 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia /

The Georgian Association of Young Lawyers demands the Georgian interior ministry to inform them about people who made answerable in administrative order in connection with the incident in front of the Tbilisi Central Police Office on June 15.

The police broke a peaceful protest action of the youth opposition. About 10 people, as well as journalists injured during the incident. After the dispersal Georgian Deputy Interior Minister Eka Zguladze stated some policemen were brought to disciplinary liability for incident.

The association demanded information about these persons on June 16. However, the association has not yet received reply, although Article 40 of the Georgian Administrative Code indicates that a public institution must release public information immediately within 10 days, in case of absence of some exceptional cases.

According to the association, Georgian society has the right to know who was punished due to this incident when tens of citizens physically injured. In addition, there is no legal ground to withhold names of people punished in disciplinary order.

The association believes the people should always discuss and criticize public officials' actions in a democratic society, especially when these actions violate people's fundamental rights and freedoms.
