The relations between Azerbaijan and the EU have risen to the level of mutually beneficial cooperation, the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov said at a meeting with a delegation of European Parliament.
"If earlier our relationship was limited to only support by the EU, but now our relationship reached the level of mutually beneficial cooperation," said Asadov.
According to the speaker, one of the priorities of Azerbaijan's foreign policy is to continue deepening relations with the EU and the EU member countries.
"We intend to expand cooperation with European structures. The cooperation is being developed through the European Neighbourhood Policy and Eastern Partnership Program which is an integral part of this policy. The establishment of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly will help raise our cooperation to a higher level," said the chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
According to the speaker, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict not only hinders economic progress in the region, it also imposes a threat to European security architecture.
At the meeting, a member of the European Parliament Franco Gaston said that the organization is interested in not only cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sector, but also cooperation at the parliamentary level and in cultural and humanitarian spheres.
At the meeting, discussions were held on prospects of bilateral relations, ways of solving regional problems.
