BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14. The Vagif Poetry Days started in Azerbaijan’s Shusha on July 14, Trend reports.

This event is organized by Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and the Union of Azerbaijani Writers.

Vagif Poetry Days (named after 18th-century Azerbaijani poet, founder of the realism genre in Azerbaijani poetry), which have a 40-year history, have been organized in the cultural capital of Azerbaijan for the second time after the liberation of Shusha from occupation.

Days of poetry with the participation of cultural and art workers, members of the Union of Writers, young writers, poets and war veterans began on July 14 with the opening of a book exhibition in front of the Karabakh hotel.

People's writer of Azerbaijan Anar Rzayev greeted the guests at the opening ceremony.

Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Union of Writers Rashad Majid said that the exhibition presents books by more than 100 poets and writers.

Presentations of the books ‘Dastan of Karabakh. Thirty years expectation - 44-day Victory’ and ‘All roads lead to Shusha’ about Vagif Poetry Days in Shusha, prepared on the initiative of the Azerbaijan Union of Writers, were presented within the framework of the event.

‘Dastan of Karabakh. Thirty years expectation - 44-day Victory’ was prepared on the initiative of the Chairman of Azerbaijan Union of Writers, people's writer Anar.

It contains the memories of writers - natives of Karabakh about their native lands.

For example, Elchin Afandiyev wrote about Shusha, Ramiz Rovshan about Gubadli, Seyran Sakhavat about Fuzuli, and Elchin Husseynbayli about Jabrayil, Agil Abbas about Aghdam.

This book also contains extensive information about the history, literature and music of Karabakh, poems dedicated to Karabakh, and articles of reporters written last year after the ‘Kharybulbul’ music festival.

The author and editor of the preface to the book is Rashad Majid.

Elchin Iskandarzada, Elshan Azim, Arzu Asad, Intigam Yashar and others spoke about their books at the event. Poet and publicist, member of Azerbaijan Union of Writers Ramiz Gusarchayli read a poem dedicated to Shusha.

The grand opening of the museum-mausoleum of Molla Panah Vagif [famous Azerbaijani poet of the 18th century] and the House of Poetry in Shusha on January 14, 1982, with the participation of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev was a manifestation of his great attention to national literature, history and culture.

It was within the framework of this trip that the national leader Heydar Aliyev gave instructions to hold Vagif Poetry Days, and from July 29 to August 3, 1982, this event was held in Shusha for the first time.

From that day until 1991, Vagif Poetry Days were held annually in Shusha, distinguished by their uniqueness in the history of modern Azerbaijani literature.
