The European Union expressed Thursday its 'deep concern' at the conduct of the security forces in Azerbaijan to use force to break up an opposition demonstration on November 26. A statement issued by the EU Presidency said that the demonstrators 'were exercising their right to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression', Trend reports.

Representatives of EU Missions on the ground noted that the security forces gave no warning ahead of the use of force, and made no attempt to disperse the crowd peacefully, said the statement.

The EU called on the authorities of Azerbaijan urgently to carry out an investigation into the conduct of the security forces, and, where necessary, to take appropriate action.
