Ali-zade / The salaries of men in the field of science will increase in Azerbaijan in 2008, depending on their academic degree, said MP Abel Maharramov, a member of the Azerbaijani parliamentary commission on science and education, who is also the head of the Baku State University, speaking to journalists on 14 November.
"The salaries of Doctors of Science and Candidates of Science are expected to profoundly increase through a separate scale. As a result, the Doctors and Candidates will receive salaries closer to the salaries of academicians," Maharramov said.
In 2007, the Azerbaijani President decreed a specified standard salary to be given for academicians. Full members of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) receive AZN 1,000 per mond, and corresponding members - AZN 700.
There are approximately 1,800 Doctors of Science in Azerbaijan, with 500 of them working in ANAS; 1,200 in Azerbaijani institutes of higher education; and 100 in different organizations. Baku State University currently employs 300 doctors.
According to Maharramov, rise in salaries will depend on academic degrees and will be financed both from the public budget and the reserve fund.
