Participants of the World Religious Leaders Summit in Baku called on traditional religious communities to confront extremism and terrorism, CIS Interreligious Council Executive Committee Co-Chair Vsevolod Chaplin told journalists today.
The summit paid special attention to the abuse of religion to justify terrorism, he said.
"People who sow death and destruction try to use religion to cover up their goals and create an alternative theological theory justifying the killing of people on religious and ethnic grounds. Those who finance terrorism show even more cynical behavior. Therefore, traditional religious communities must resist the idea of extremism and terrorism," Chaplin said.
The World Religious Leaders Summit is being attended by 250 representatives of various confessions from 35 countries worldwide.
