Azerbaijan will establish an institute to improve qualifications of the journalists, Azerbaijani Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov told Trend.

"Problems of journalism in Azerbaijan must be approached comprehensively in the attempt to address them. These include issues related to improving the financial status of journalists and increase their professionalism. One of the priorities in 2011 is creating the Advanced Training Institute for journalists," Amashov added.

The country's well- known journalists and foreign experts will share their experiences with the youth here.

"Today, we are working on establishing such an institution," he said.

Amashov added that this issue was raised at the opening ceremony of the new building of the Press Council, in which President Ilham Aliyev also participated. President Aliyev approved the creation of the institute.

Amashov said the professional development of journalists will be carried out in two directions - "first, the creation of the institute and the second, studying journalism at foreign universities. The state will finance the creation of the Institute, but soon it will gradually move to the self-supporting system. The Institute will maintain continuous operation," Amashov said.
