Azerbaijan has become a permanent member of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), the Geology Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) reported.
Azerbaijan's membership was unanimously approved by 28 countries at the 25th General Assembly of the Union held in Melbourne.
Until Azerbaijan was not a full member of the Union, its participation in the activities of the organization was limited and it had no right to vote.
The Secretary General of the ANAS National Committee on Geodesy and Geophysics, Senior Research Fellow, PhD on geological-mineralogical sciences, Gulam Babayev, represented the country at the IUGG XXV General Assembly Earth on the Edge: Science for a Sustainable Planet.
He made a report on "Seismic monitoring in Azerbaijan on the basis of the Geology Institute and data base of the Azerbaijan National Information Center" in the "Young scientists and research results" section.
