Last year more than 120,000 divorces were recorded in Turkey, the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) said on Wednesday.
According to the report, 593,000 marriages and 120,000 divorces were recorded in 2011.
According to the TÜİK, most divorces in the country account for the first five years of married life. Divorce rate among couples living together after five years reaches 40 per cent of the total number.
Divorce rates after 16 years of marriage is 24 per cent of the total figure. The age of 22 per cent of men and 20 per cent of women divorced during the reporting year ranges from 30 to 34 years.
