BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 16. Open European Championship in Combat Jiu-Jitsu was held in Slovak Michalovce, Trend reports.
Some 10 athletes of the sports society of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have represented Azerbaijan at the championship.
Fidan Yusifova (62 kg) became the first in the ground fight and self defense competitions. Jeyhun Huseynov (93 kg) and Magrur Akhmedov (85 kg) won gold medals. Sabir Hasanov (85 kg) became the second, Shirin Shirinov (57 kg) and Said Gambarli (63 kg) became the third in the competition of athletes aged 18-35 in the ground fight category.
Amir Abdi finished the tournament in third place in the ground fight category among athletes aged 14-15. Akhmedov won silver medals in the ground fight and close contact versions, Shirinov and Abdi won bronze medals in the close contact category.
The team was led by an employee of the sports society of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports, Honored Coach Rasul Mammadov. R. Mammadov was invited to the European Championship as the chief referee, and under his leadership, the referee teams of this competition were supervised. Also, R. Mammadov is the chairman of the judging committee of the International Combat Jiu-Jitsu Federation and has repeatedly led the World, European and Asian Championships as the chief judge.
Azerbaijani national team finished the championship with 12 medals.
