The legislation of Azerbaijan does not envisage the institute of the double citizenship, which makes the fulfillment of the demands of the group of Azerbaijanis, residing in Georgia impossible, the press secretary of the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Georgia Elhan Poluchov told Trend, commenting on the applications of a group of supporters of Telman Hasanov, which staged the action of protest in the village Vahtangizi of the Gardaban province, Georgia, on 1 September.

Poluchov noted, earlier the action was planned to be held in two villages of Gardabani province, Vahtangisi and Sadahli, however, due to some circumstances the action in Sadahli failed.

В"In any case, part of the demands of Hasanov are not feasible, as it contradicts the laws of Azerbaijan”, Poluchov underlined, noting, in declarations of its supporters there are demands not only to grant double citizenship to the Azerbaijanis of Georgia, but also to disclose all crimes, committed against the Azerbaijanis, to allot them land in ownership, to take into consideration the interests of the Azerbaijanis in land reforms.

The Embassy’s official underscored, “only the Georgian citizens were involved in the latest actions and the issue is an internal matter of this country”.

It should be reminded, the supporters of Telman Hasanov held on 1 September an action of protest, during which they attempted to close the road traffic, however the police forces did not allow them to do it.

Hasanov holds actions since 1989. He threatened to stage large mass action on 15-16 September.
