Azerbaijan, Ganja / Trend corr. V.Mammadov / Nizami Najafov, the cardiologist of Ganja Cardiologic dispensary, stated that infarction is spreading among the young in the west region of Azerbaijan.
Before people aged 35 to 40 suffered from infarction. Now the disease is spreading among a younger age group of 27 or 33.
"World experiences reveal that 70-80% of people suffering from infarction are rich people. The main cause of the disease is smoking, as well as those who have hereditary susceptibility to cardiological diseases. I should also note hypertensive patients and people suffering from permanent stress," Najafov added.
Some 1,145 people suffering from heart ischemia were registered in Ganja City Cardiologic dispensary during the six months of 2007. The Ganja dispensary reported that 41,195 calls were registered during the last six months. Some 32,130 calls were due to heart attack. According to Najafov, on average about 56% of the world's population die from heart attack. The figure in Azerbaijan is 60%.
