Geostat reveals volume of electricity imported by Georgia from Azerbaijan

Georgia imported electricity from Azerbaijan in the amount of $36.39 million in 2020, Trend reports citing the Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

As reported, this figure is $19.13 million or 34.5 percent less than in 2019. The cost of electricity imported by Georgia from Azerbaijan in 2019 amounted to $55.52 million.

According to Georgia's Commercial Operator of the Electricity System (ESCO), in 2020, 726.3 million kWh electricity was imported from Azerbaijan. This is 34 percent less than in the previous year. Last year, 45.1 percent of the electricity imported by Georgia fell on Azerbaijan.

In 2020, the volume of trade between Georgia and Azerbaijan amounted to $934.4 million.

According to the document, Azerbaijan, with a share of 8.2 percent in Georgia's trade turnover, ranked fourth among Georgia's trade partners after Turkey, Russia, and China last year.

Last year, Georgia's exports to Azerbaijan decreased by 13.2 percent and amounted to $441.2 million.

In the reporting year, the total value of products imported by Georgia from Azerbaijan amounted to $493.1 million, which is 11.7 percent less than in 2019.
