BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 14. The number of employees as of March 1, 2023, in Azerbaijan, increased by 33,700 people, or 2 percent compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

According to the committee, the total number of employees on the first of March 2023 reached 1.7 million people, including 901,000 in the public sector of the economy, and 814,800 in the private sector. At the same time, out of the total number of hired citizens, 19.4 percent work in education, 18.8 percent - in trade and vehicle repair, 12.8 percent - in industry, 8.3 percent - in health and social services, and 6.7 percent - in the field of construction.

In addition to the above statistics, 6.5 percent of employees work in the sphere of public administration, defense, and social security, 4.2 percent - in transport and warehousing, 3.6 percent - in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, 3.5 percent - in the scientific and technical field, 2 percent - in the financial and insurance sectors, while 14.2 percent - in other industries.

According to preliminary data, from January through February 2023 the average monthly nominal salary of employees in Azerbaijan amounted to 854.2 manat ($502.4) with an increase of 11.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the average monthly nominal salary was higher in the mining industry, financial and insurance activities, information and communications, as well as in professional, scientific, and technical activities.
