Georgia receives money transfers worth $98 million in December 2010

The volume of money transfers sent to Georgia from abroad amounted to $98.1 million in December 2010, which is $2.1 million or 2.2 percent more than in December 2009.

The volume of money transfers sent to Georgia from abroad amounted to $98.1 million in December 2010, which is $2.1 million or 2.2 percent more than in December 2009, Georgian National Bank said. 

During this period, the volume of remittances from Russia increased by 2.9 million, while the volume of remittances from Italy grew by 1.7 million.

Some $7.738 million fell to Ukraine in December, which is $1.354 million less than the figure for December 2009.

Greece ranks third for the money transfers. The country transferred $6.433 million to Georgia in December.

Georgia transferred $8.367 million abroad in December 2010, which is $122,000 less than the November figure.

The amount transferred from Georgia in December 2010 was $331,000 more than the same period in 2009.

Russia ranks first for remittances sent from Georgia at $2.951 million, while Ukraine ranks second at $1.976 million.
