The Baku Metro plans to start laying a tunnel as part of the project to build the new Avtovakzal metro station in March, a source in the Baku Metro said.
The tunnel construction will be carried out using by the German company Herrenknecht. The new tunnel construction method will be used in Azerbaijan for the first time.
"The new installation is already on the site and work is underway to build a capsule," the source said.
Another source told Trend earlier that the construction of the first two stations, Memar Ajami-2 and Avtovakzal, will be completed by late 2012.
The new installation covers 25 meters daily.
The Baku Metro has been in operation since 1967 and has 22 stations.
