The UN and other international organizations can not impose sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran, Bank's Governor Mahmoud Bahmani said on Monday.
"Iran's Central Bank is an independent institution and imposing sanctions against the bank is illegal," he added.
"We believe the UN will not impose sanctions against the Central Bank of Iran," he said.
Last week, Washington announced that it was "very actively" considering the issue of imposing sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran.
The EU and Washington have already imposed four sanctions through the UN over Iran's nuclear program and imposed unilateral measures that have deterred western investment in Iran's oil sector.
