Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization has granted 3 trillion rials (about $245 million) to the private sector for building 130 vessels, ISNA quoted the organization's deputy director Alireza Kebriyaee as saying.

Contracts for building 130 vessels have been signed with the private sector, he said, adding that 70 percent f the contracts have come into force.

Recently, another contract for building 10 vessels was signed with a domestic company, he noted.

In August, Managing-Director of Sadra Company Mehdi Etesam announced construction of four highly-advanced Aframax oil tankers for the first time in the Middle-East by Iranian experts, saying that the four crude vessels have been ordered by Venezuela.

In July, Iran joined the world club of oil tanker producers after launching its first domestically-made 113,000-ton Aframax oil tanker in the Southern waters of the country.

Despite the western embargos, Iran's maritime and shipbuilding industries have made huge progress in recent years.
