Turkmen textile industry includes more than 70 textile and clothing enterprises, about half of which are high-tech industries, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

In 2016, these enterprises produced about 120,000 tons of cotton yarn, over 221 million square meters of cotton and nearly 1.4 million square meters of silk fabrics, as well as sewing and knitted goods worth more than 1.5 billion Turkmen manats.

At the same time, production of silk fabrics increased by almost 4 times compared to the production volume in 2007, production of cotton fabrics grew 1.3 times, and production of non-woven fabrics grew nearly twice.

Production of hosiery is also growing in Turkmenistan. Textile industry is developing on the basis of the growth of domestic processing of raw cotton grown in the country.

In 2016, planned obligations for the delivery of cotton in Turkmenistan were fulfilled in the volume of 1.071 million tons.
