There are plans to start building a railway between Iran’s Chabahar Port and Pakistan’s Karachi Port in the near future, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost said, Trend reports via ISNA.

He said that the initial agreement with the Pakistani government has been reached and expressed hope that the railway will be built soon.

He added that the Pakistani government is interested in the development of trade with Iran through the Rimdan border crossing, because it is one of the closest links to Gwadar and Karachi, the two main ports of Pakistan.

The Chabahar port in the Sistan and Baluchestan province is regarded as one of the strategic ports for Iran. Iranian officials noted that this port will play a major role in the trade and transit spheres of the region in the future.
