According to Madani, this figure is forecasted to grow by an additional 3,000-4,000 tons of shrimp.

Madani also said that efforts are being made to cultivate 56,000 tons of shrimp for the next Iranian year (begins March 21, 2019), adding that 80 percent of the nationally produced shrimp is from the Bushehr and Hormozgan provinces.

The organization official said that, with increased levels of production, work needs to be done for providing sufficient supplies of larvae and feed, as well as for finding international markets.

"Some 30,000 tons of shrimp have been exported by the end of the 10th month," he said.

Noting that shrimp is mainly exported to Europe, the Gulf countries and China, Madani said. He went on to add that new efforts are being made to arrange exports of shrimp to the Russian market.
