Milk production decreases in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19

Milk production decreased by 4.8 percent in Georgia in the third quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018 and amounted to 160.3 million liters, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

Meat production decreased by 3.3 percent compared to the same period of 2018 and stood at 14,500 tons.

In the third quarter of 2019, egg production amounted to 146.2 million pieces which is 5.1 percent less than in the same period of the last year.

The number of bovine animals was down by 2.1 percent in the third quarter of 2019 compared to the third quarter of 2018.

Meanwhile, the number of bovine animals amounted to 902,100 heads. Among them, the total number of dairy cows and buffaloes decreased by 7.1 percent and equaled 436,600 heads.

The total number of sheep and goats decreased by 7.3 percent year-on-year and stood at 813,600 heads.

According to the report, the number of pigs equaled to 225,400 heads which is 8.8 percent less compared to the same indicator of last year.

The number of poultry consisted of 9.1 million heads which is 3.7 percent less compared to the same indicator of last year.
