BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 30
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
The number of airlines, as well as passenger traffic is growing in Georgia, Trend reports with reference to Georgian media outlets.
The five leading airlines include Wizz Air with 587,179 passengers (12 percent of the market), Turkish Airline – 559,749 passengers (11 percent), Georgian Airways – 550,831 passengers (11 percent), Ural Airline - 294,000 passengers (6 percent), and Fly Dubai - 250,296 passengers (5 percent).
The data shows that in general, foreign companies are leading in the Georgian market, which shows a fairly high level of competition.
In 2019, some changes are expected in the structure of airlines operating in Georgia, as after long negotiations, the largest low-cost airline in the world, the Irish Ryanair, entered the country's market.
The company announced its entry into the Georgian aviation market in August, and began flights in November.
Today, 88 percent of Georgia’s aviation market is controlled by foreign companies, and only 12 percent - by local ones.
