Kazakhstan to decrease sowing area for some agriculture crops

The sowing area in Kazakhstan will be 22.5 million ha in 2020 which is 237,700 ha more than in 2019, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Agriculture Rustem Kurmanov said, Trend reports with reference to the ministry.

Kurmanov said that the sowing area of cereals and legumes will be decreased compared to 2019 from 15.4 million ha to 15.2 million ha, whereas that of oilseeds will be increased by 122,200 ha to three million ha.

The forecast area of the vegetable, melon and potato crops will be expanded by 19,300 ha this year, whereas the area of fodder crops will be expanded by 308,600 ha.

In order to carry out the sowing work, some 2.47 million tons of seeds have been prepared in the country, which is 100.2 percent of the panned volume.

Readiness of tractors for spring field work is 82 percent, of sowing complexes - 100 percent, of seed drills - 80 percent, of tillage implements - 82 percent.

Overall, more than 4,000 modern high-performance sowing complexes will be used during the sowing work. These complexes have the ability to sow 70 percent of the area for cereals.

Some 70 billion tenge ($177.8 million) have been allocated this year from the public budget in order to support agrifood industry.
