About 2,100 tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties have been picked in the western Georgian region of Racha as of October 16, where the harvest started last week, Trend reports via the Georgian National Wine Agency.
This year about 2,500 tons of the Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties are expected to be harvested in Racha. These are the grape varieties that are blended to make the famous semi-sweet Georgian red wine of Khvanchkara.
To support the grape harvest process in the region, a special coordination center for grape picking has opened in Ambrolauri, in Racha-Lechkhumi.
Meanwhile, the grape harvest is coming to an end in the eastern Kakheti region, where 269,000 tons of grapes have already been processed.
