By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

This year, Georgia has sold abroad up to 90 tons of sunflower seeds, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

According to Geostat, 89.6 tons of sunflower seeds worth $375,600 were sold from Georgia to Russia in the first 9 months of this year.

A small amount of sunflower seeds has been exported to Qatar this year. It seems that Georgian exporters exported this product to check the market, because the volume of sunflower sold in Qatar this year is less than a ton and less than $1,000 in monetary terms, so the Geostat foreign trade portal does not take into account this insignificant amount.

As for the past years, last year Georgia supplied sunflower seeds only to the Russian market. Last year, exports amounted to 208.7 tons, which brought the country $1.03 million.

Three years ago, Georgia sold 175.7 tons of sunflower seeds to Russia in the amount of $98,300.

In 2018, the sunflower export market was relatively more diversified. The country exported this product to Russia and Azerbaijan.
