Iran allocates loans for purchase of agricultural machinery

Iran has allocated 30 trillion rials (about $714 million) worth of loans for the purchase of agricultural machinery in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021, through March 20, 2022), Director of the Iranian Agricultural Equipment Development Center Kambiz Abbasi said, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

The director stressed that about 30,000 tractors, 800 units of the combined harvester, and 40,000 units of various agricultural machinery will be purchased with these funds.

Abbasi added that it is forecasted that about 92 percent of wheat sowing areas will be planted through equipment in the autumn with the purchase of new equipment.

“In addition, use of agricultural machinery in paddy sowing will increase to 80 percent and in paddy harvesting – to 90 percent,” he said.

According to the director, sugar beet and corn are fully grown and harvested in Iran via agricultural machinery at present.

Abbasi noted that two cotton harvesters were imported to Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), and farmers got acquainted with this type of combine harvester. After that, big steps will be taken to harvest cotton with a combined harvester.

“Last year, Iran allocated 33.5 trillion rials (about $797 million) worth of loans for the purchase of agricultural machinery,” he added.
