Azerbaijan discloses number of economically active people

The economically active population reached 5.3 million people in Azerbaijan as of early July 2021 while the share of the employed population reached 4.9 million people, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the number of employees reached 1.7 million people, including 911,600 people in the state sector of the economy, 766,000 people in the non-state sector. Moreover, 32,100 people were employed in the oil and gas sector of the economy, 1.6 million people in the non-oil sector.

At the same time, 23.5 percent of employees at enterprises and organizations were employed in the sectors of production, including 7.3 percent in the processing industry, 7.4 percent in construction, 3.4 percent in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 1.9 percent in the mining industry, 1.9 percent in the water supply, waste treatment and recycling sector, 1.6 percent in the production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam.

Some 19.7 percent out of the total number of people, involved in the service sector, work in the education sector, 18.6 percent – in the field of trade and repair of vehicles, 8.3 percent – in the field of health care and social services.

Some 6.7 percent were employed in public administration and defense sector, as well as in the field of social security, 5.3 percent - in the sector rendering the administrative and support services, 4.4 percent - in transport and warehousing, 3.4 percent are engaged in professional, scientific technical activity.

Moreover, 3.2 percent of employees work in the field of recreation, entertainment and arts, 1.7 percent - in information and communications, 1.7 percent - in finance and insurance and 1.5 percent in hospitality and catering.

The remaining 1.1 percent render the services in other sectors and 0.9 percent in real estate.

Azerbaijan's GDP increased by 2.1 percent from January through June 2021 compared to the same period of last year and reached 39.9 billion manat ($23.5 billion).
