BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. French Orano continues negotiations with Kazakhstan’s Kazatomprom National Atomic Company on development of the new South Torkuduk deposit, Orano official told Trend.
Orano has been present in Kazakhstan via KATCO JV LLP , the Joint-venture with KazAtomProm, since 1996.
Today, KATCO produces its uranium from the Muyunkum and Tortkuduk uranium deposits in the south of Kazakhstan.
Orano and Kazatomprom signed on 10th of April 2017 the long-term agreement that covers the development of the new South Torkuduk deposit, situated in-between of the existing industrial facilities of Tortkuduk and Muyunkum of KATCO.
“Negotiations are on-going to formalize the final steps of the deposit development,” the official said.
KATCO started production in 2006 and has produced since more than 40,000 tons of Uranium. It is the worlds’ biggest operator of the uranium mines by the ISR method and supplies 7 percent of the world’s uranium.
