In 2010, Turkey will buy 6.6 billion cubic meters of the Azerbaijani gas from the Shah Deniz gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, a senior representative of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
"This year, Turkey will purchase the contracted amount of oil - 6.6 billion cubic meters," the source added.
The rest of the gas from the field will be supplied to Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Based on the plan, it is expected to produce about 7.6 billion cubic meters of gas from the Shah Deniz field in 2010 compared to 6.2 billion cubic meters in 2009.
Under the current contract, Turkey must receive 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas from Shah Deniz in the first stage of the field's development. Shah Deniz reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters.
The contract to develop the offshore Shah Deniz field was signed on June 4, 1996. Participants to the agreement are: BP (operator) - 25.5 percent, Statoil Hydro - 25.5 percent, NICO - 10 percent, Total - 10 percent, LukAgip - 10 percent, TPAO - 9 percent, SOCAR-10 percent.
