China has come in the gas sector in Central Asia to stay for a long time, Research Director for Russian and Caspian Energy of IHS CERA Vitaly Yermakov believes.
"China has come in the oil and gas sector of Central Asia to stay for a long time, judging by the projects it implements in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan", Yermakov said, speaking at the conference "Energy of Russia and the Caspian Sea" in Astana.
Thus, according to Yermakov, in Uzbekistan, the Chinese national oil company CNPC started active cooperation in the fuel-energy industry in May 2005.
"And in September 2005, CNPC entered the Aral Sea Project. In April 2007, both countries agreed on plans for the joint construction of gas pipelines," Yermakov said.
He said that in April 2011, Uzbekistan has reached an agreement with China to expand the pipeline to 25 billion cubic meters.
As for Kazakhstan, the cooperation of China began here in September 2005. In 2009 the construction of an oil pipeline Kazakhstan - China completed. In September 2009 laying of Kazakh section of Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline completed. In December 2010, construction began of 1475-km Kazakh section of the pipe bend on the Turkmenistan - China pipeline.
In the third Central Asian republic, Turkmenistan, the Chinese company also came in 2005.
"In April 2006, China and Turkmenistan agreed on plans for pipeline construction. In December 2010 the first volume of gas went from Turkmenistan to China. In April of last year the sides signed an agreement for an additional loan from China worth $ 4.1 billion and export expansion to this country from Turkmenistan," Yermakov said.
