Azerbaijan can become major electricity exporter

In the future, Azerbaijan can export eight to 10 billion kilowatt / hours of electricity annually, the department head of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Industry and Energy Tahir Jafarov said at a conference on ‘Energy Efficiency: Economic and institutional aspects and perspectives’.

In the future, Azerbaijan can export eight to 10 billion kilowatt / hours of electricity annually, the department head of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Industry and Energy Tahir Jafarov said at a conference on 'Energy Efficiency: Economic and institutional aspects and perspectives'.

"The potential for the export of electricity by Azerbaijan to Europe will amount to 650-1200 megawatts," Jafarov said.

He added that at present, the power grid capacity of Azerbaijan is 6400 megawatts. Some five billion cubic meters of gas are directed towards the country's electricity production each year.
