BP Azerbaijan, operator for developing Azerbaijani offshore field Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli, expects increase in production of Azeri Light oil from the West Chirag platform in 2016, a source on the country's oil and gas market told Trend.
It is expected to increase the effectiveness of production primarily by drilling new wells, according to the source.
"Another well was put into operation in December, as a result of which, their number on West Chirag platform reached 10," said the source. "Currently, the average daily production nears 110,000 barrels which will be increased."
Construction of the West Chirag platform was carried out as part of the Chirag oil project which envisages increasing the oil production at ACG block. The platform has been installed at a sea depth of 170 meters between the production platforms at Chirag and Guneshli fields.
The production sharing agreement for developing Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field was signed in 1994.
The shareholders of the project are: BP (operator in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli) - 35.78 percent, Chevron - 11.27 percent, Inpex - 10.96 percent, AzACG - 11.65 percent, Statoil - 8.56 percent, Exxon - 8 percent, TPAO - 6.75 percent, Itocu - 4.3 percent and ONGC - 2.72 percent.
