There are plans to complete the installation of equipment for collection of associated gas in the Siyazan settlement in the northeast of Azerbaijan by mid-2019, a source in the country’s oil and gas market told Trend.
This work is included to the national action plan for Azerbaijan, which envisages the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
The implementation of the project began in February 2017.
Studies conducted last year by the United Nations Development Program showed that huge amounts of natural gas are emitted into the atmosphere from three oil fields in Siyazan alone.
Initial estimates show that if this gas is collected, it will be possible to ensure gas supply to about 3,000-4,000 families.
SOCAR’s Siyazanneft plant, which owns about 550 wells, is located on an area of 2,000 hectares.
SOCAR reduced carbon dioxide emissions within its projects to 5.891 million tons in 2017. Since 2010, emissions have been reduced by 45 percent.
