Iran to commission waste-to-energy plant in Nowshahr county

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 5

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The first phase of the Nowshahr waste-to-energy plant in Nowshahr county of Iran’s northern Mazandaran province will be commissioned before the end of this Iranian year (began on March 21, 2019), Iran's Deputy Governor of the province Mehdi Razcuyan told reporters after visiting the plant.

“The work is underway to launch the reactors,” Razcuyan added, Trend reports referring to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

The deputy governor added that the second phase of the plant will start to operate within two months after the commissioning of the first phase.

“The plant was built to protect the environment and in accordance with the standards,” Razcuyan said.

Razcuyan said that the heat generated from the burning of waste at this plant will be converted into electricity and will be connected to Iran's grid.

"So far, more than 900 billion rials (about $21.4 million) have been spent for the implementation of this project," the deputy governor said.

The construction of the plant was launched in Nowshahr county in 2011.

The plant area covers about two hectares; around three megawatts of electricity is expected to be generated per hour after the plant commissioning.
